A Day Out in the Community is intended to provide a break for caregivers from the day-to-day demands of caregiving, while offering peace of mind that their loved one is in a safe environment, engaging with others. Many people provide unpaid care for an aging loved one. For many primary caregivers, the physical, emotional, and financial toll of this work can lead to fatigue and burnout. It’s important for caregivers to practice self-care but it’s often challenging to take time away due to lack of time or feelings of guilt.
A Day Out in the Community is for adults aged 60 and above who wish to connect with others, participate in activities, and develop friends, and who have a volunteer caregiver that could benefit from a respite. The program is funded by the Merit Award Trust Fund (MATF) Caregiver Support Program.
This is a monthly event. It is a structured program with games and activities.
