Public can try schizophrenia hallucination simulator
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness that affects 2.4 million Americans. The powerful symptoms that people dealing with schizophrenia experience, such as hallucinations and delusions, can have a devastating impact on their lives.
In honor of May Mental Health Month and to help promote understanding and empathy for those living with this mental health challenge, Northern Lakes Community Mental Health has the Mindstorm Symptom Simulator on three days next week. Created with the help of people dealing with schizophrenia and an expert panel of psychiatrists, Mindstorm is a six-minute, 3-D experience seen through lightweight polarized glasses with a computer program. Mindstorm produces visual hallucinations and distortions, voices, wind effects, and smells.
